Palaver Tree
Where educators gather, think, and grow.
You are in the right place.
Maybe you are a classroom teacher who is exhausted — not from caring too much, but from working within systems that mistake busyness for learning, compliance for engagement, and coverage for education.
Maybe you are an instructional coach, a curriculum director, or a school administrator navigating the space between institutional accountability and the kind of teaching that actually changes lives.
Maybe you are a Muslim educator — a weekend school teacher, an IWS volunteer, a madrasa instructor — who loves what you teach and wants to teach it with the excellence it deserves.
Whoever brought you here — you are in the right place.
What is Palaver Tree?
In West African tradition, the palaver tree was where a community gathered — not to be lectured at, but to deliberate together. Under that tree, elders and young people, leaders and those they served, sat in the same shade and thought through hard problems together.
That spirit is the foundation of everything here.
Palaver Tree is an education platform grounded in a single animating principle: the just balance — al-wasatiyyah — the middle path that avoids the extremes of rigidity and permissiveness, of theory without practice and practice without theory.
In education, the just balance looks like this: neither the teacher who controls everything nor the one who controls nothing. Neither the curriculum that ignores the student nor the one that abandons rigor in the name of relevance. The wise middle — and that is where great teaching lives.

About Henry Hane
Henry Hane is the Executive Director of a nonprofit organization, a doctoral scholar in education , and the founder of Palaver Tree Consulting. My scholarly work asks a question that I believe is among the most important in education today.
My journey as an education has been shaped by the intellectual and scholarly tradition that have produced some of the most sophisticated pedagogical thinking in human history. I grew up understanding that wisdom does not have a single address: that a teacher in a remote African village under a tree and a researcher in a university library might be working toward the same truth from different directions.
That understanding is the foundation of everything I build.
I am also a practitioner. Not a theorist who observes classrooms from the outside, but someone who has spent years managing people, navigating institutional complexity, building community across difference, and making decisions with incomplete information under genuine pressure. I have written performance improvement plans and budget analyses, mediated conflicts and crafted governance documents, trained volunteers and supervised staff.
Henry brings together modern education research, Prophetic pedagogy, and decades of organizational leadership into content that is intellectually serious, practically grounded, and immediately usable.
